The Differences Between Engineered and Solid Wood Flooring

Throughout the winter months, with the weather dark, gloomy and wet outside, many homeowners will be looking to carry out home improvements, ensuring that by the time the family arrive for Christmas Day the home offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, whilst also appearing aesthetically pleasing. One way to achieve this is by fitting new flooring London which our team here at Ajax Flooring are able to supply you with, including engineered and solid wood flooring.

Solid wood and engineered flooring are guaranteed to offer various benefits to your home and décor, however before choosing one over the other it’s important to understand the differences so that you can make the correct decision for your needs and requirements.

Engineered Flooring:

By its very nature, engineered wood flooring is made up of various layers, however it replicates real wood flooring as the top layer consists of real wood protected by a layer of film. Due to the way the flooring is constructed it can be installed in virtually any climate, including outside conversions Leamington Spa. They can also be installed over under floor heating, without the worry of it buckling.

Unlike other flooring options however, engineered wood flooring cannot be sanded more than a couple of times during its lifespan, which means should a dent or chip occur the floor may have to stay in that condition.

Solid Wood Flooring:

Whilst engineered wood flooring is made up of various layers, as the name suggests solid wood flooring is natural wood flooring which has been cut to size to create a beautiful wooden floor for any home, from townhouses through to quaint country cottages.

If you’re seriously considering fitting solid wood flooring, you’ll need to ensure that the room is moisture controlled; otherwise you could find the wood buckling and expanding over time. That said, whilst engineered flooring cannot be sanded too often, solid wood flooring can be sanded multiple times throughout its life ensuring it continues to remain in a beautiful condition.
