The Art of Oak Flooring

The varying tones, shades, and textures within a single plank of wood is remarkable, and has been illustrated as a form of artwork in people’s homes up and down the country for years, which is why we at Ajax Flooring are proud to inform you that we helped to create a true masterpiece by laying oak flooring in the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London. You may be surprised to learn that the oak flooring London itself was the exhibit, and it looked stunning; even if we do say so ourselves.

This time last year, the artist Bethan Huws contacted us regarding an exciting art exhibition she was hoping to create with our help. As flooring specialists, we could appreciate the organic beauty of oak flooring, with the rich tones and inviting persona, which is why we jumped at the opportunity to showcase some of the most beautiful flooring available in today’s market.

The Process

While the act of painting a work of art demands creative flair, imagination and a steady hand, we at Ajax Flooring similarly had to draw upon our industry experience and skill in order to lay an oak floor that was worthy of the gallery it was to be showcased in.

Before laying the oak floor, we first had to construct a softwood undercarriage which was going to support the oak floor; but as professionals with years of experience, we could do this with ease and to a high level of quality throughout. We then went on to lay the oak itself, carefully securing the wooden slats to the softwood below. After we had completed this, the next stage was to sand down the oak floor and apply three costs of Blanchon oil; all-in-all the floor covered 190 sqm.

The finished product was a true piece of art; the golden hue emitting from the oak flooring London was stunning, showcasing the main reasons why this particular type of flooring is used as a statement piece in many forms of interior design London.
